Birthdays

Let members privately save a birthday and opt in to annual direct messages or premium server announcements.

How it works

#

Birthday settings are member-controlled and silent by default. A member can separately choose profile visibility, an annual private reminder, and announcements in eligible premium servers; server owners choose whether their server has an announcement channel and message.

Before you start

#
  • For server announcements, confirm the server has premium and choose a channel Airwavy can view and send in.
  • Ask members to review their own birthday privacy and delivery choices rather than collecting birthdays on their behalf.

Configure it

#
  1. As a member, run /profile settings and save the birthday month and day, visibility, private reminder choice, and server-announcement choice you want.
  2. As a server manager, open Birthdays in the dashboard, enable premium announcements, choose a text channel, and compose a message of up to 512 characters.
  3. Save and verify the channel permissions. Birthday matching uses the UTC calendar date.

Privacy and delivery choices

#
  • Birthday visibility controls whether another member can see the date through /profile view; the profile owner can always see their own saved value.
  • Private birthday reminders and server announcements are independent opt-ins.
  • A private birthday does not become public merely because a server enables birthday announcements; the member must also opt in to announcements.
  • Airwavy stores month and day for this feature, not a public age.

Private by default

Saving a birthday alone does not enable a public profile date, direct message, or server announcement.

Announcement message

#
  • Use {member:mention} to include the birthday member's controlled Discord mention.
  • Use {member:username} to include their Discord username as plain text.
  • Keep the message welcoming, avoid age assumptions, and test channel visibility with a normal member account.

Expected result

#
  • An opted-in member can receive at most one private birthday message per year.
  • In each eligible server, an opted-in current member can receive at most one configured announcement per year.

Verification

Test with a normal member account. Owners and administrators can bypass restrictions that ordinary members experience.

Common errors

#
An announcement is not sent

Confirm the member opted in, the server's premium birthday configuration is enabled, and Airwavy can View Channel and Send Messages in the selected destination. The member must still belong to the server.

Saved changes do not take effect

Reload the feature page and confirm the saved values. Then verify that the selected Discord channel or role still exists and that Airwavy can access it.

Discord reports missing permissions

Check the permission on both the server role and the target channel. Channel overwrites and role hierarchy can deny an action even when the server-level permission is present.
