Reaction Roles: A Complete Setup Guide

Without self-service roles, every interest tag or notification opt-in requires a staff member to manually assign it — which doesn't scale, and creates a bottleneck for something that shouldn't need staff involvement at all. A published panel lets members opt into exactly what they want, instantly.

Discord has no native self-assignable-role panel — role assignment is otherwise a manual, staff-only action through Server Settings or a slash command with the right permission. Any self-service flow comes from a bot.

Panels use reusable Discord button interactions — the feature name is retained for familiarity, but members click buttons rather than adding emoji reactions.

• Panels can be published in text or announcement channels with a custom title, description, and button label, emoji, and visual style.
• Free servers can publish one panel with up to five roles; Server Premium supports up to ten panels with up to 20 roles on each.
• Selecting a panel option grants its mapped role; removing or toggling the selection follows the panel's configured behaviour.

1. Create the assignable roles first, and place all of them below Airwavy's role.
2. Open Reaction Roles in the dashboard and create a panel.
3. Set its channel and message, then map each option to a role.
4. Save or publish the panel, then test both adding and removing a role with a normal member account.

• Mapping a privileged role — Administrator, moderation, staff, or an integration-managed role — to a self-service panel. Never do this.
• Placing a panel role above Airwavy's own role, so the grant silently fails.
• Not re-testing after changing role order, channel access, or the panel message — any of these can break a previously working panel.
• Offering roles that aren't actually safe for any eligible member to hold, just because it's convenient to add them to the panel.
